At Sound Coffee, we believe coffee brings people together. We're a small, independent coffee roaster based in Bridgeport, Connecticut, passionate about exceptional coffee, genuine hospitality, and creating a neighborhood café where people love to gather.

We're looking for someone who enjoys working with people, takes pride in doing things well, and isn't afraid to jump in wherever the team needs them. This role combines specialty coffee preparation with light kitchen responsibilities, helping us deliver an exceptional experience from the first cup of coffee to the last sandwich of the day.

What You'll Do

Craft Exceptional Coffee

• Prepare espresso drinks, brewed coffee, tea, matcha, and seasonal beverages to Sound Coffee standards.
• Dial in espresso and maintain consistency throughout the day.
• Learn about our coffees, roasting process, and menu so you can confidently answer customer questions and make recommendations.
• Maintain and clean espresso equipment, grinders, and brewing equipment.

Prepare Fresh Food

• Prepare sandwiches, toast, breakfast items, and light café offerings.
• Follow recipes and presentation standards.
• Maintain food safety, sanitation, and proper ingredient storage.
  
• Monitor freshness and rotate inventory.

Deliver Outstanding Hospitality

• Welcome every guest with warmth and professionalism.
• Take orders accurately using our POS system.
• Create a positive, friendly atmosphere that encourages guests to return.
• Resolve customer concerns with care and confidence.

Keep the Café Running Smoothly

• Restock coffee, milk, pastries, food, cups, and supplies.
• Maintain a clean, organized café throughout each shift.
• Assist with opening and closing procedures.
• Support teammates wherever needed during busy periods.

 

What We're Looking For

We're less concerned about finding someone with years of coffee experience than someone with the right attitude and work ethic.

You should be:

• Friendly and genuinely enjoy serving people.
• Reliable and punctual.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
• Able to stay calm under pressure.
• Detail-oriented and committed to quality.
• Willing to learn and accept coaching.
• A strong team player who enjoys helping others succeed.

Previous café, restaurant, or customer service experience is a plus, but we are happy to train the right person.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Lift up to 40 pounds.
• Bend, reach, carry, and work efficiently during busy service periods.
• Maintain a clean and organized workspace throughout each shift.
